EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ In December, the University of Nebraska at Kearney finalized a plan to cut $4.5 million from its budget as part of $43 million in systemwide reductions that preserved a family science degree and some positions while planning to eliminate other programs, with similar cuts made at UNO, UNMC and UNL. - ➤ Effective today, SNAP benefits in Lincoln no longer cover soda and energy drink purchases as part of the Healthy Choice Waiver. The Food Bank of Lincoln, led by Tiffany Murray + committed to food stability, says the change supports families in accessing essential food. Nebraska Now
- ➤ In Nebraska, SNAP restrictions have taken effect today, banning soda and energy drinks purchased with benefits. The measure is part of a broader policy enacted in five states and will run for two years as officials assess its impact. KNOP

- ➤ A second measles case is reported in Platte County when an unvaccinated household member tests positive following the first case, officials say. Those who visited Shell Creek Baptist Church on Dec. 24 or Columbus Community Hospital ED on Dec. 29 should complete the risk assessment survey. KNOP
