- ➤ Super C is building a new convenience store at South 10th and High with a kitchen for Ty’s BBQ and Smashys. Pitmaster Tyler Sell (who rebranded Norm’s on 48th to supply Lincoln with his barbecue) said the store will finish in December and open by end of January. KOLN
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Nick Tarlowski refurbishes and gives away used guitars, basses, and drums for free to new learners in Lincoln today (he asks that unused instruments be passed on rather than sold). Nebraska Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Dr. Rodney Bennett, after two-and-a-half years and a vote of no confidence from the Faculty Senate, is stepping down on Monday, Jan. 12 — a decision following budget cuts that eliminated some academic programs and merged others. KFOR
- ➤ Lincoln's Certified Nursing Assistant Learning Hub offers a month-long evening course that started Jan. 5 to help busy families and professionals earn CNA certification; over 100 students have already passed with a 95% success rate. Nebraska Now
- ➤ University of Nebraska Lincoln Chancellor Rodney Bennett will resign on Monday, Jan. 12 following a no-confidence vote in November 2025 — he cited stabilizing enrollment and record fundraising achievements as part of his legacy. KNOP

- ➤ On Jan. 5, 1934, Lincoln hosted its first unicameral Legislature session after voters approved the one-house system promoted by Senator George Norris — a milestone in local government. KNOP
- ➤ The Parks and Recreation Department announced that MoPac Trail will close on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between North 48th and 56th streets for tree work, with work expected to finish by Thursday. Trail users are advised to use alternate routes. Nebraska Now
- ➤ UNL Chancellor Rodney Bennett will resign on Monday, Jan. 12 — his decision follows a faculty vote of no confidence last November. He helped boost enrollment, fundraising, and research during his tenure. KOLN
