- ➤ Pepe’s Bistro held a fundraiser Sunday offering a select menu + art sales to support two tenants who lost their homes in a downtown fire, and the sell-out led restaurant owner Pepe Fierro to cancel two additional events since the combined funds and GoFundMe now fully back the efforts. - ➤ 10/11 News welcomes returning anchor Nathan Brennan, who will co-anchor the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts starting Jan. 22. His return (after two years in Kansas City) is expected to bring fresh local insight for Lincoln viewers. KOLN
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Jan. 11, the Quilted Leaf Quilt Guild showcased nine Quilts of Valor at Wallace American Legion Hall, drawing about 100 local attendees. The event celebrated community art and craftsmanship. KNOP
- ➤ At Wax Buffalo’s Candle Lab in Lincoln, owner Alicia Reisinger hosts sessions where participants pour 100% soy candles and share in her journey from caring for her daughter to reclaiming creativity (a hobby turned growing business). KOLN
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Jim Hartung, a legendary gymnastics athlete and longtime coach, passed away at 65. He led the U.S. team to Olympic gold in 1984 and coached the Huskers to their first four NCAA team titles while earning honors in multiple halls of fame. KNOP
- ➤ Nebraska is set to hire Corey Brown as the new defensive line coach, filling the void after Terry Bradden's departure. Brown comes from Miami (Ohio) RedHawks and brings Big Ten experience from Rutgers and work with defensive coordinator Rob Aurich. KNOP
