  • High winds and winter weather have damaged several Little Free Pantries in Lincoln — local volunteers quickly rallied to repair the doors and foundations so neighbors can continue to access food.  Nebraska Now
  • The 40th annual Husker Toy & Buckle show took place on Sunday at the Sandhill Global Event Center with about 200 vendors displaying toy tractors, cars, and semi-trucks that reflect Nebraska’s farming history and mark four decades of connecting local agricultural heritage with collectors.  KOLN

  • Lincoln teens will lead the 31st annual MLK Day event starting at 10 a.m. Monday at the Nebraska Union (highlighting a personal take on the civil rights legacy).  Lincoln Journal Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State Sen. Dave Murman has proposed a bill requiring Nebraska K-12 schools to teach about communism’s risks and to include a civics test like the U.S. citizenship exam before eighth grade and graduation next school year. Teachers oppose the bill, saying they prefer local boards to set standards.  Nebraska Examiner

  • Lincoln Transportation and Utilities announced that a section of 8th Street between O and P streets will close from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday for private crane work (detours follow via P Street to Ninth Street to N Street).  KOLN
