COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, Lincoln students and community members gathered at the MLK Youth Rally, drawing over 600 attendees and featuring a guest from Statesboro (Dr. King’s hometown). Speeches highlighted his legacy and stressed the need for continued hope, change and civic engagement.  KOLN

CULTURE NEWS

  • A photo gallery showcasing Nebraska women in agriculture is now on display at Innovation Campus, featuring 78 portraits taken at the 2024 Nebraska Women in Agriculture Conference and audio interviews, and it is free to visit daily until Feb. 24 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  KOLN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nebraska lawmakers have introduced a bill that requires K-12 schools to teach about the risks of communism and adds a written civics test for eighth graders and high schoolers, with implementation planned for next school year and teacher unions voicing concerns plus urging local control in curriculum development.  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Seward County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday that its working K-9, Luc (age 13) died Friday after a long career alongside Sergeant Kevin Beattie, who began serving in January 2019.  KOLN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Four HealthToGO vending machines are operating in Lincoln, offering free health, hygiene & safety supplies such as feminine hygiene products, condoms, and tests. The pilot program, based on community needs, is available at several sites including the Health Department at 3131 O Street.  KFOR

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Resort Lifestyle Communities has been named a 2026 Best of Senior Living Provider by A Place for Mom — six of its communities earned All-Star Awards among 25 overall recognitions.  Fox Nebraska

SPORTS NEWS

  • Braden Frager (6 ft 7) from Lincoln Southwest was named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week after strong scoring in recent wins. The forward helped the Huskers move to an 18-0 record and will play at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.  Fox Nebraska
  • Nebraska men's basketball reached its highest AP Poll ranking in school history after a win over Northwestern, and the Huskers will host the Washington Huskies on Wednesday to try to extend their 23-game winning streak.  KNOP
