  • Nebraska casinos earned record revenue in 2025 by raking in $261 million across five locations including Omaha and Lincoln; revenues jumped over $100 million from 2024 and tax contributions now help fund the state’s property tax relief fund.  KOLN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Black Crowes will perform this summer at Pinewood Bowl Theatre on Aug. 4 as part of their Southern Hospitality Tour — ticket presales start Feb. 3 at noon, and general sales begin Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. with Southall opening the show.  KOLN
  • A Lincoln research center is showcasing the heritage of Germans from Russia (arrived by railroad in the 1870s) and their role in building the North and South Bottoms Districts.  KNOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Nebraska–Lincoln professor Mathias Schubert was named a 2025 National Academy of Inventors Fellow for his pioneering work in optical ellipsometry and semiconductor research - he is also working with international partners to develop high-power semiconductor materials.  Fox Nebraska
  • Lincoln Public Schools will break ground on the new $24.8 million Yankee Hill project facility after the board of education approves the construction bid at its Feb. 10 meeting.  Lincoln Journal Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Seventeen first responders were honored Tuesday in Lancaster County for acts of heroism — a deputy pulled a man from a burning car while others cut zip ties and talked teens off ledges to save lives.  Lincoln Journal Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department confirmed Lancaster County’s first measles case since 1990 when a vaccinated adult without out-of-state travel may have exposed others at Walmart on Jan. 18 (1-3:30 p.m.) and Med Elite Urgent Care on Jan. 25 (1:30-5 p.m.).  Nebraska Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pius X announced Tuesday that Abby Fox, an alum and former head coach at Lincoln Southeast, has been hired as the new head volleyball coach for the Thunderbolts. She led Southeastern teams to success before and will now build a culture of faith, accountability and competitive excellence.  KFOR
  • Nebraska's 2026 football schedule was announced Tuesday, featuring nonconference home games on Sept. 5, 12, and 19 followed by conference contests including a Sept. 26 road game at Michigan State and a Halloween home game against Washington, with season tickets now on sale.  KFOR
  • The Nebraska women's tennis team will travel to Lawrence on Friday at 5 p.m. to face the Kansas Jayhawks and then return Sunday for a doubleheader at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. Fans can get free parking + live streaming and concessions.  Fox Nebraska
