CULTURE NEWS

  • Prairie Quilts of Honor is asking for quilts to be returned for an upcoming America250 display. The organization plans to feature quilts that celebrate local history and invites neighbors to contribute for a commemorative exhibit.  KNOP

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rising grocery prices have led several Lincoln residents to change their Super Bowl plans set for this Sunday. Prices have increased 3% in the past year (according to a Labor report), prompting some to cancel parties while others share costs and local stores run sales on popular items.  Nebraska Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nebraska Extension invites farmers and ag experts to attend two-day Nebraska Master Irrigator Shop Talk sessions on irrigation and nitrogen management challenges, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT at sites including Grand Island, Beatrice, Norfolk and North Platte later in 2026 (the program offers peer learning and certification credits).  Fox Nebraska
  • On Tuesday, student leaders gathered at the Capitol Rotunda (FBLA, FFA, and Educators Rising) to advocate for funding and support for Career and Technical Student Organizations; they met with state senators to explain how these programs have helped shape their career plans.  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Seventy cats were removed from a northeast Lincoln home after Lincoln Animal Control observed multiple permit violations during an inspection on Jan. 30; the cats were taken to the Capital Humane Society for veterinary care (investigation ongoing).  KOLN
  • Gov. Jim Pillen appointed former Husker Joel Makovicka to fill the NU Board of Regents District 4 seat; he will serve until Jan. 7, 2027 with an election later this year. Makovicka (who played for the Huskers and Arizona Cardinals) now runs a physical therapy practice in Lincoln and Omaha.  KFOR

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Lincoln City Council discussed the 18N Building Redevelopment Project during Monday’s meeting—a plan for 87 apartment units designed to connect downtown with the Telegraph District at 18th and N street; council will vote on the proposal on Feb. 9.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Royals fans can watch 10 games for free on Gray Media channels this season, including the home opener against the Minnesota Twins on March 30 in Nebraska. Three game times are set while seven will be announced later, continuing a partnership that brings baseball action from Lincoln plus North Platte.  KOLN
  • Fans will watch 10 Royals games free on Gray Media-owned channels this season; the home opener airs Monday, March 30, with more games scheduled to broadcast across Nebraska from Lincoln to North Platte (confirmed by GM Jacque Harms).  KNOP
