- ➤ After a Jan. 30 inspection in northeast Lincoln uncovered violations at a hoarding home, authorities rescued 92 cats and the Central Nebraska and Capital Humane Societies are now offering them for adoption. KOLN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Twenty-eight coaches have been honored with the NSAA Champions for Coaches Award for the 2025 to 2026 school year, and they will be celebrated at halftime during the Class B Boys State Basketball Semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday, March 13 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. KNOP

- ➤ University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Nebraska Snapshot shows that 41% of Nebraskans now view the state’s direction positively, while 31% feel the same about the nation — a trend revealed by seven surveys conducted from early 2020 through 2025. KNOP
- ➤ Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana hosted their fifth town hall on Monday to address delays in their cannabis initiative. The group said Nebraska was left out of a federal protection committee despite Gov. Pillen’s law signing—and they plan to keep advocating for better medicinal access. Nebraska Now
- ➤ Rural firefighters are training for potential fires as warmer, drier weather sets in. The Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department plus other local teams are holding grassfire and house burn trainings to improve readiness. KOLN
- ➤ Jenn Gjerde was appointed as the new executive director of the Nebraska Tourism Commission after a national search and unanimous vote of nine to zero on (Feb. 12). A commission member since 2015, she will lead 10 staff amid talks of a possible merger with the Economic Development Department. KOLN
- ➤ Violet (10) and Belle (8) Troupe will testify before state senators today as their mom seeks insurance reform to cover the $15,000 monthly IV treatment for their PANS/PANDAS condition; Lincoln Sen. George Dungan introduced LB 762 in the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee at 1:30 p.m. KNOP
- ➤ The Nebraska Department of Revenue reported January tax receipts exceeded forecasts by 6.5% with nearly $37 million extra revenue driven by strong sales and use taxes, and state officials will update projections during a Feb. 27 meeting. KFOR
