COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After a heavy snowfall on Thursday, Lincoln's Snow Angels cleared sidewalks for elderly residents and others who could not shovel, helping prevent falls and strengthen neighborhood bonds. Organizers plan to bring in more volunteers as winter weather continues.  Nebraska Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buresh Meats, a David City-based meat store, debuts in Air Park after renovations delayed its planned December opening.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • After Thursday’s winter storm increased car crash calls, Midwest Towing and Recovery worked a 14-hour shift and Eustis Body Shop prepared its lots for more repairs. Both companies advised drivers to avoid traveling on slick roads (to keep safe).  KOLN
  • Wolfe Ace Hardware in Havelock helped locals meet winter needs after Thursday's storm by quickly selling shovels, ice melt and sand. Jason Wolfe, who runs the family store (since 1982), said shovels priced ($12 to $70) were the most in demand this morning.  Nebraska Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Leadership Nebraska (a program of the NE Chamber Foundation) celebrated 35 graduates, marking the conclusion of Class XVII on Thursday, Feb. 19 in Lincoln; graduates join a 400-member alumni network dedicated to lifelong service and growth.  Fox Nebraska
  • Nebraska Extension is hosting a free webinar on Tuesday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. for producers, veterinarians, and consultants to learn about low pregnancy rates in young cows, with advance registration required by Friday, March 6.  Fox Nebraska

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska First District Congressman Flood said the Supreme Court’s 6-3 tariff ruling will not halt local efforts to build a resilient economy for hardworking Nebraskans. He stressed that new steps to trim expenses and expand opportunity will help local businesses stay competitive + support growth.  KFOR
  • City crews contained wastewater overflow last Friday morning near Ox Bow Circle & North 33rd Street after a pump malfunction caused wastewater to back up into Salt Creek. Officials replaced the faulty instrument and resumed normal lift station operations.  Nebraska Now

  • Fred Hoiberg described the incident (a heated moment) when an Iowa fan rushed him with a cell phone (he noted his pacemaker reliance made it dangerous) after Nebraska's 57-52 loss; Iowa later apologized for the security breach and Nebraska will face Penn State today at 1 p.m. CT.  KNOP
