COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday the Nebraska Cattlemen Disaster Relief Fund announced it is accepting donations and relief applications from beef cattle producers impacted by wildfires in counties like Morrill and Lincoln. The fund remains active until further notice and will distribute all contributions to producers with property loss or damage.  KOLN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Four major wildfires are burning today, scorching over 750,000 acres across Nebraska while the Morrill Fire, burning nearly 600,000 acres on cattle grazing land, led to one fatality and prompted evacuations as officials coordinate resources.  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nebraska Department of Agriculture is helping farmers and ranchers impacted by wildfires with supplies like hay, feed, fencing and equipment; producers can call 1-800-831-0550 or complete the 2026 Wildfire Relief Requests form.  KOLN
  • Members of the Grand Island Rural Fire Department returned home over the weekend after assisting with the Cottonwood wildfires in Lincoln, Dawson, and Frontier counties. They worked in 48-hour windows (allowing rest between shifts) as fire officials urge residents to follow closures and safety guidance.  KOLN
  • Lincoln Fire and Rescue’s 11-member task force is protecting homes and checking properties in western Nebraska after wildfires burned over 460,000 acres; the team deployed near Ogallala Saturday evening and will work for seven days under orders from Mayor Baird and Gov. Pillen.  KOLN

  • Nebraska’s basketball team, carrying an 0-8 NCAA Tournament record, will try to win its first game against Troy on Thursday at 11:40 a.m. in Oklahoma City as they aim to break a longstanding winless streak.  KOLN
