  • Lincoln Children’s Zoo named its rare female Matschie’s tree kangaroo Samala after a village birth attendant in Papua New Guinea. The joey, born in 2025, lives in the Animal Kingdom Building and was chosen by community vote in February (one of only three born in accredited facilities last year).  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska lawmakers passed a bill on Tuesday to create a Nebraska-Ireland trade commission — a move to strengthen ties between local businesses and Irish trade and academic groups — with Speaker John Arch leading the effort.  Nebraska Examiner
  • On Tuesday, Sen. Pete Ricketts honored exhausted firefighters on the Senate floor for battling four wildfires (burning over 750,000 acres) across Nebraska and urged residents near the fires to be ready to evacuate if needed.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Nebraska men's basketball team arrived in Oklahoma City for the NCAA tournament and practiced at Oklahoma City University before settling in; they will face No. 13 seed Troy on Thursday at 11:40 a.m. CT in the round of 64 as they look for their first tournament win.  KNOP
  • Nebraska basketball player Sandfort was named to the Central District First Team Tuesday, while Mast joined the Second Team and coach Hoiberg earned Central District Coach of the Year honors by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.   • Eighteen Nebraska football players are heading to arbitration over more than $1 million in rejected NIL deals—experts say the case, testing protections in a 2021 law, may set a national precedent with a decision expected in about 45 days.  KOLN
  • Nebraska Football’s Spring Game tickets cost $5 now but will rise to $10 Monday and $20 on Saturday, March 28, when kickoff is at 11 a.m. The event includes home games for Nebraska baseball and softball at Haymarket Park.  KNOP
