CRIME NEWS

  • A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he stabbed his 47-year-old mother during an argument on Thursday near 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue in northeast Lincoln—police said a 15-year-old provided first aid and officers detained the teen after a brief standoff while the woman suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to her back.  KOLN
  • Lincoln Police said a domestic disturbance early Wednesday morning at an apartment near 22nd and G Street ended in a murder-suicide when 44-year-old Pah To shot himself and 40-year-old Bu Gay died at a hospital while a 13-year-old boy underwent surgery, and a 15-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were not hurt.  KFOR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Jim Pillen declared a state of emergency on Friday for over 20 counties hit by a winter storm that closed roads and left many without power—damage estimates exceed $21 million. The emergency lets his office use funds to help teams repair damage as assessments continue.  KOLN
  • Lincoln Transportation and Utilities announced that Transformation Drive between North 21st Street and Salt Creek Roadway will close beginning Monday for private sanitary sewer work—motorists are urged to follow the detour via Salt Creek Roadway to North 21st Street as the project is set to finish by April 11th.  KOLN
  • Eric Underwood, the Nebraska GOP Chair who led a revolt against his party's establishment, announced he will not seek reelection after serving three years—he endorsed vice chair Mary Jane Truemper as his preferred successor. The party will choose its next leader today in Kearney.  KOLN
