CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested (32-year-old) Jaime Javier Garcia Erazo on suspicion of first-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon after he reportedly stabbed a (30-year-old) man near Eighth and A streets on Sunday evening in west Lincoln; officers later learned he was also linked to a stabbing near Southwest 27th and West B streets that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries.  Nebraska Now
  • Officers responded to a report at Emerald Nursing Home where a janitor sexually assaulted a 78 year old dementia patient on Saturday—police arrested 63 year old Derald Wiltshire on charges of abuse of a vulnerable adult and third degree sexual assault.  Nebraska Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lancaster County Election Office said early voting ballots for the Lincoln Primary Election on April 8 were mailed to voters who requested them by March 21 — ballots must be returned by mail or in secure drop boxes by 8:00 PM on April 8. Lincoln voters may pick up ballots or vote in person at the Election Office during regular and extended hours — including times on March 28, April 2, April 5, and April 7.  Nebraska Now
  • Early voting for the Lincoln City Elections began March 24, and the League of Women Voters launched VOTE411—an online guide that gives voters candidate details, voter registration info, and polling place locations. The guide also explains two key ballot initiatives—the April 8 primary will decide on extending a sales tax for street improvements and the May 6 general election will ask voters to ban housing discrimination based on income.  KOLN

  • The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department & Crusade Against Colon Cancer coalition announced Monday that free colon cancer screening test kits you can use at home are available at participating pharmacies in Lincoln and Lancaster counties for residents ages 45 to 74 through April 30.  KOLN
