  • The State of Nebraska is joining with the Food Bank of Lincoln and the Food Bank of the Heartland to continue the annual campaign against hunger. Donations are accepted through April 11 and the Stuff the Truck event on April 10 will take place outside the capitol building—food items will be sent to distribution centers to help meet growing needs.  KOLN

CRIME NEWS

  • Lincoln authorities are investigating a surge in cyber crime—over a dozen cases have been reported in two weeks, with scams causing more than $250,000 in losses and involving schemes like toll and Facebook marketplace fraud.  Nebraska Now
  • Lincoln police said two elderly brothers—aged 76 and 77—lost more than $1.3 million between last November and April 2 when they fell for an online trading scam that pretended to invest their money in stocks and cryptocurrency; police urge extreme caution in online investing.  KFOR
  • Lincoln Police investigated a burglary early Friday at Murphy’s Express north of 84th and Adams; a roll up security door was pried open and a shattered front door caused ($3,000) in damage while about ($600) in vape products were stolen by a man in his 20s or 30s wearing a blue/gray coat, a white or gray hoodie and gray shoes with green laces.  KFOR

  • Lincoln local Carolyn Fiscus continues her search for her aunt’s unmarked grave at the Genoa boarding school where a July 2023 dig found no human remains, leaving many families without closure. The state Commission on Indian Affairs plans further surveys — adding cadaver dogs and ground radar reviews — as the search for missing Native children continues.  KOLN

  • At the state FFA convention on April 3, potential ag teachers learned about career opportunities as schools face a shortage of educators.
