  • On April 4, 1895, Governor Silas A. Holcomb signed a law naming goldenrod as Nebraska’s state flower with support from botanist Dr. Charles Bessey — September 17 was later celebrated as Golden Rod Day at the state fair.  KNOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Nebraska State Museum hosted its monthly science lab on climate change in Morrill Hall. Visitors explored interactive stations that explained past climate impacts and ways to reduce greenhouse gases, with a view of fossils including Archie the Mammoth.  KOLN

  • State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg urges locals to use free financial education resources on his office website during Financial Awareness Month this April. The site offers tools on budgeting, debt management, and saving to help residents secure their economic future.  KFOR
  • Lincoln Transportation and Utilities announced that parts of Adams Street between 33rd and 41st, eastbound Cornhusker Highway between 35th and Havelock, and 70th Street from Arbor to Bluff will close starting Monday, April 6 for road improvement work in Lincoln.   • On Saturday, Nebraska rallied to beat Penn State in a doubleheader at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. The Huskers overcame an early four-run deficit with an 8-7 win in game one and then delivered a 13-1 run-rule win in game two ahead of tomorrow's series finale.  KNOP
