  • Capital Humane Society (CHS) received a $6,500 Rachael Ray Save Them All grant from Best Friends Animal Society to support lifesaving vaccinations and help divert 66 pet surrenders. The award bolsters CHS’s efforts to remove economic barriers for pet owners in Lincoln.  KOLN

  • Breeze Airways will launch its first nonstop flight from Lincoln Airport to Las Vegas on Wednesday, giving local travelers a direct option to reach the city.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • Business owners along the O Street route are preparing for a three-phase construction project that will run until fall, 2027. They are taking steps to adjust their operations and thrive during the construction period.  Lincoln Journal Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Branched Oak Observatory has seen a surge in visitors after the Artemis II launch as families flock to learn about space. Director Matt Anderson (its co-founder) says the event offers new educational opportunities that bring the sky closer to everyone.  Nebraska Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Lincoln increased by 12.1 cents per gallon to an average of $3.38 as of Monday from a GasBuddy survey (of 146 stations), yet they remain among the lowest in the nation.  Lincoln Journal Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents in Lincoln may soon use NEST 529 accounts for trade schools and apprenticeships as well as four-year programs if a new bill passes today in the Legislature (it raises the withdrawal limit to $20,000 to align with federal guidelines) and expands qualifying uses starting January 2029.  KNOP

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 19 Nebraska baseball won an 8-6 series against Penn State on Sunday at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park to improve to 11-1 in Big Ten play. The Huskers host Kansas today with first pitch set for 6 p.m. on B1G+.  KFOR
  • Junior guard Pryce Sandfort will have surgery to treat a sports hernia and is expected to be ready for summer workouts, + Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg said after the season ended.  KNOP
  • The No. 8 Nebraska softball team won 11-5 over Rutgers at Bowlin Stadium on Sunday, Apr. 5, with head coach Rhonda Revelle recording her 1,200th win for the Huskers.  KFOR
  • Former Nebraska running back Tony Davis died Sunday after complications from Parkinson’s Disease. He starred for the Huskers in the 1970s and later played in the NFL, with services pending.  KFOR
