COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Survivors and experts on childhood trauma gathered Monday in Lincoln at a Beyond the Score panel hosted by BraveBe Child Advocacy Center to share tools and education aimed at preventing future hardship from adverse childhood experiences. The event coincided with Child Abuse Prevention Month and Crime Victims’ Rights Week and offered the community ways to support one another.  KOLN

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said a Lincoln man—Michael Anderson, 33—was arrested on Sunday night in the parking lot of Kong’s Liquor after bypassing an ignition interlock device on his red pickup truck; he now faces charges including felony DUI, driving while revoked, and tampering with the device with a court date set for May 13.  Nebraska Now
  • Police arrested a 53-year-old man on a warrant for an assault that left a Lincoln man in intensive care on March 11 — the victim said he was attacked after refusing to hire him for a home improvement project.  Lincoln Journal Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Lincoln voters decide whether to renew the quarter-cent sales tax that generates $18 million annually for street repairs and new road construction—local officials warn that without it the number of projects could drop significantly. Some residents support the tax for continued progress while others are concerned about higher expenses.  Nebraska Now
  • Governor Jim Pillen signed a letter of intent to the USDA on Monday asking that soda and energy drinks be removed from eligible SNAP purchases in Nebraska — he was joined by Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services leadership. State officials said the change will not affect SNAP benefits and that plans to work with grocers and SNAP education partners will move forward once USDA approval is received.  KNOP

HEALTH NEWS

  • The 12‑month opioid reduction program that began in September 2024 is paused because federal officials cut the $3M funds last week, stopping the effort to help surgery patients use fewer opioids. A federal judge blocked the cancellation last Thursday — the program remains on hold pending a final funding decision.  KOLN
