BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ford is recalling 422,613 vehicles including Lincoln Navigator, Ford Expedition, and F series Super Duty trucks because faulty windshield wiper arms may break. Letters will be mailed on Apr. 13 and dealerships will inspect and replace the parts free of charge.  KNOP

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mileigh Krebs, an 18-year-old blind tap dancer from Alliance defies limits as she prepares to graduate from her dance program today. She will soon attend a training center in Lincoln to enhance her cane travel skills (a move that underscores her determination and artistic talent).  KNOP
  • Brews at the Zoo returns at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo this summer with live local bands, animal encounters and local craft drinks from 6 to 11 p.m. on dates from Saturday, June 27 to Friday, Sept. 4; tickets cost $39 and go on sale April 14 to support zoo programs.  KOLN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Nebraska-Lincoln recognized 11 faculty with new professorships for top research, creative work, teaching and leadership; the awards honor their excellence and reinforce the university's commitment to academic achievement today.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • UNL police responded on Monday night to a campus alert after a video showed a man carrying what looked like a long-barreled rifle near East Campus Union; investigators later found that three juveniles were on campus with airsoft guns (not real weapons), prompting students to raise safety concerns.  KNOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 50 leaders and staff from Nebraska’s Natural Resources Districts visited Washington from Mar. 30 to Apr. 1 to press Congress for stronger funding for conservation projects as drought and wildfire challenges grew across the state; they will follow up locally + host public meetings with officials.  Fox Nebraska

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lincoln YMCA will host a free Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 11 at the Fallbrook YMCA at 700 Penrose Drive. The event will feature kid-friendly fitness demos, a bounce house, a cook-along, raffle drawings and community vendors to encourage healthy habits.  Fox Nebraska

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Nebraska men’s basketball team wrapped up its best season in school history with a 28-7 record and its first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, finishing at No. 14 in the final AP poll released Tuesday. Coach Fred Hoiberg was named National Coach of the Year on Apr. 3.  KNOP
  • Nebraska director of athletics Troy Dannen announced Monday that head coach Heather Brink’s contract for women’s gymnastics will not be renewed after eight seasons, and a national search with Elevate College will begin soon while her contract pays out until June 30.  KFOR
