  • Nebraska Extension provided wildfire recovery resources for farmers and ranchers with an informational meeting at Brady Community Center on April 9 and is hosting one today at Oshkosh City Auditorium from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Representatives will share details on assistance programs, mental health support and USDA resources.  KNOP

  • Breeze Airways flights from Lincoln to Las Vegas and Orange County launched Wednesday at Lincoln Airport with over 100 passengers boarding during a festive inaugural departure — the service will continue on Wednesdays and Saturdays to offer local travelers a direct, affordable option.  KFOR

  • Jamaican rapper and DJ Sean Paul will headline the Summer Nostalgia festival - set for June 30 at Ice Box Arena with doors opening at 6 p.m. The show will feature his hit tracks that have energized audiences for years.  KNOP

  • Ground has been broken for Southeast Community College's new 20,000 sqft Agriculture Technology Center on its Beatrice campus; the state-of-the-art facility will feature drone technology and precision ag labs (part of advanced simulation systems) and is expected to open in fall 2028 to help address the skilled worker gap in agriculture.  Nebraska Now
  • Gov. Pillen remains focused on school choice after legislators cut his gap year voucher funding request; he and U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon visited Hamlow Elementary in Waverly on Thursday, April 9. Meanwhile, the Unicameral advanced LB 748 to expand NEST 529 accounts for higher education and trade skills, effective this summer if signed by Pillen.  KOLN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lincoln health officials noted a rise in overdose deaths and remind residents that calling 911 is safe under good Samaritan laws plus Narcan is available for free at CenterPointe and other local vending machines. They urge caution against using non-prescribed drugs to reduce life-threatening risks.  KOLN
  • A Lincoln pharmacist reported medication delays caused by supply chain issues linked to the war in Iran. He noted that nearly 70% of generic drugs are imported and advised customers to plan ahead as substitutions are not always exact.  Nebraska Now
