ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A woman died Saturday morning when a car hit her on Highway 81—just north of Madison—and state patrol officials said they are investigating the crash while working to identify her as the road was later reopened.  Nebraska Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lincoln officials honored writer Loren Eiseley—widely recognized for his contributions to understanding nature and human history—by unveiling a historical marker Friday in Irvingdale Park.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • Mayor Gaylor Baird and community representatives dedicated a Nebraska Historical Marker in Irvingdale Park at 20th and Van Dorn streets last Friday to honor local native Loren Eiseley, an anthropologist, educator, and writer whose early explorations inspired his noted work. Lincoln City Libraries is presenting a monthlong display at the Eiseley Branch Library—showing how Lincoln shaped his life and writings.  KFOR

  • Mary Abebe, a computer science teacher at Adams Elementary in Lincoln, was named the 2025 Scottish Rite Educator of the Year during a surprise ceremony Friday. Her award honors a long career dedicated to teaching and the passion she has for her work.  Lincoln Journal Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska State Troopers reported a 52% increase in citations for speeds over 100 MPH during the first 100 days of 2025, stopping 318 drivers for over 100 MPH and 1,469 for above 90 MPH while officials warned drivers to follow posted limits as they continue to patrol state roads.  KFOR
  • Lawmakers advanced a bill requiring age verification for social media accounts with a 38—2 vote, aiming to protect youth mental health and let parents manage privacy. The proposal, introduced by Sen. Tanya Storer and backed by Gov. Pillen, will next be debated and would bar account creation without age proof after next year.  KNOP
  • Three at-large incumbent city council members are running in the May 6 general election, and Lincoln voters will choose whether to keep them in office.  Lincoln Journal Star
