COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A study by the University of Lincoln Bureau of Sociological Research revealed that one in six Nebraskans felt lonely some or all of the time. The study showed that 40% of unemployed and 30% of unmarried residents experienced loneliness—young adults aged 19 to 44 reported a 21% rate compared to 13% among older residents.  KNOP
  • The Meadowlane Community Pool closed two years ago after nearly 60 years of service and many local families lost a key community spot for swim teams and gatherings. Over 100 donations from residents, local businesses + grants will help start repairs and clean-ups, although the pool will not open this summer.  Nebraska Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three people were taken to a Lincoln hospital after two vehicles collided near the Belmont neighborhood at Yolande Avenue and Cornhusker Highway on Sunday night at 9:45 p.m.—Lincoln Fire and Rescue and Police responded to the scene while the investigation continues.  KOLN

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested 46-year-old Lori Leafty in northeast Lincoln on Saturday after she allegedly fired a gun and threatened someone at her home, and officials said a firearm was recovered with no one injured.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Max Buettenback led the Huskers with a game-tying hit and key RBI as Nebraska won 6—4 against Iowa on Sunday at Duane Banks Field. The team will travel to Omaha to face Creighton tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Charles Schwab Field.  Nebraska Now
  • On Sunday, the number 21 Huskers defeated Northwestern 10-1 in a run-rule game as Jordy Bahl and Samantha Bland hit early solo home runs while Kylee Magee pitched five strong innings allowing one run. The team will try to complete a sweep today — marking their second back-to-back win this season.  Nebraska Now
  • Tyrell Chatman, a junior at Lincoln North Star, flipped his college commitment from Northern Illinois to Iowa State on April 8 and said an unofficial visit sealed his deal—he recorded 37 tackles, seven pass deflections and four interceptions this season.  Nebraska Now
  • The first-ever John Cook team roping classic was held at the Sandhills Global Event Center on Sunday, where more than 60 duos from six states competed for over $180,000 in prize money—raising funds for the UNL club rodeo team.  KOLN
  • Nebraska defeated Iowa 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at Duane Banks Field as Max Buettenback tied the game, scored the go-ahead run, and hit an RBI single. The Huskers will travel to Omaha on Tuesday, April 15 (first pitch at 6 p.m. on FS1) for a midweek matchup at Creighton.  KNOP
