COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 260 UNL students joined the 20th Big Event across Lincoln to help residents and community sites with yard work and cleanup.  Lincoln Journal Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska will enforce new Medicaid work requirements on May 1, requiring beneficiaries to work or volunteer 80 hours a month, and local hospital officials warn the change may strain services if patients do not update their contact information (Bluestem Health and Nebraska Hospital Association).  KOLN
  • The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission approved formal regulations for medical cannabis sales (including security requirements and limits to in-state recommendations) and sent them to Attorney General Mike Hilgers and Governor Jim Pillen for review. The approval may prove key to licensing manufacturers, transporters and dispensaries this fall.  Nebraska Examiner
  • The Medical Cannabis Commission approved its final cultivator license and emergency regulations on Monday while manufacturers wait for a timeline to apply. It will hire staff and secure legal counsel (to avoid conflicts) and will discuss further details at its May 11 meeting at 1 p.m.  KOLN

HEALTH NEWS

  • On May 1, Nebraska will enforce Medicaid work rules (targeting able-bodied adults) that may cost Bluestem Health up to $600,000 yearly and lead to 10-15% patient disenrollment. Hospital officials urge patients to update their state portal contact information to avoid coverage gaps.  KNOP

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No. 19 Nebraska baseball team lost five to four to No. 21 Oregon in Eugene on Sunday. The Huskers return to action today when they host Creighton at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park with first pitch set for 6 p.m.  KFOR
  • Lincoln basketball announced on April 13 (via social media) that Pryce Sandfort will return for his senior season after a record-breaking campaign attracted NBA interest; he averaged 18.1 points, broke the school’s record for three-pointers, and aims to build his legacy here.  Nebraska Now
  • Nebraska's softball team dominated Wisconsin in Madison on Sunday with a 12-2 win that brought their record to 33-6. The Huskers will head to Minneapolis next weekend to face the Golden Gophers.  KFOR
