CRIME NEWS

  • Lincoln police arrested a 46-year-old woman on Saturday after she allegedly threatened her roommate and fired a shot from a handgun near 58th and Huntington, with no injuries reported and the gun recovered (she faces charges for terroristic threats and using a weapon to commit a felony).  KFOR
  • Lincoln police arrested 32-year-old Nyachang Dak on Sunday after school officials at Brownell Elementary found bruising on a 10-year-old girl last month—she now faces a felony child abuse charge with a court hearing set for May 20.  KOLN
  • Donovan Youngman, 27, was arrested Friday in a 2023 drug smuggling scheme at a Lincoln prison and appeared in court Monday on charges of delivering a controlled substance and unlawful acts in the corrections department—this marks the second arrest after 31-year-old Kelly McCormack was taken on Dec. 27.  Nebraska Now

  • Lincoln’s 24-year-old singer Jadyn Olesen passed Monday’s knockout round on The Voice after she sang Avril Lavigne’s Keep Holding On to show her softer voice—judges Michael Bublé and Adam Levine praised her talent.   • Lincoln Public Schools is working on new sports areas at Lincoln Northwest and Standing Bear high schools using bond money and donations. The district finished a football stadium at Northwest and built practice fields at Standing Bear — with fieldhouses set to finish by early August — while more work remains.  Lincoln Journal Star

  • Governor Jim Pillen announced a new program yesterday at 11 a.m. to expand Nebraska’s production animal veterinarian workforce, targeting recent veterinary graduates and professionals interested in relocating—this effort builds on last year’s partnership with the University of Nebraska and the Nebraska Department of Labor.  KOLN
  • Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley sent a letter to state senators warning that business tax incentive programs will cost more than $1.5 billion over the next four fiscal years—adding pressure to a tight state budget.
