CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Beatrice man, 27-year-old Austin Meyn, was ruled competent to stand trial for charges of child abuse resulting in death and first-degree sexual assault of a child—his pretrial hearing will be held on May 6 following his arrest on Aug. 15, 2024. KOLN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln Transportation and Utilities announced that several streets will close starting the week of April 21 for repairs and utility work. Adams Street, Southbound 27th Street, Old Cheney Road and L Street will be closed at various times — drivers are advised to take alternate routes. KOLN
- ➤ A bill to let patients use medical marijuana was stopped on Thursday when lawmakers in committee voted three to five against moving LB677 forward due to a dispute over smokable marijuana. Without rules to set up the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission, patients in Lincoln will not have regulated access this year (Initiatives 437 and 438). KNOP
- ➤ A legislative committee failed to advance a bill meant to regulate voter-approved medical cannabis and empower the Medical Cannabis Commission—state Sen. Ben Hansen said the 5—3 vote on April 17th leaves advocates seeking a new path forward. Without state funds, the commission remains largely ineffective in regulating the industry. Nebraska Examiner

- ➤ A big ranch in the Nebraska Sandhills that has been in two families since the late 1800s is now for sale at $50M as most of the five siblings choose to sell the 55,136-acre land.
