COMMUNITY NEWS

  • El Centro de las Américas hosted its 19th annual fundraiser on Friday at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel downtown. The event featured wine, chocolates, and tango dancing (with a silent auction) to support education, health and community services for Hispanic and Latino families.  KOLN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Nebraska has lost ground to neighboring states with an estimated 70,000 fewer jobs than expected based on past growth. Business leaders say that upcoming tax incentives and a renewed economic development plan will try to boost job growth and help families in the state (targeting tech and affordable housing challenges).  KOLN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • University research introduces simple irrigation rules that use soil moisture levels to decide when farmers should water crops. Field tests will soon begin on corn and soybean fields to boost profits while conserving water.  KOLN

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study by Trace One shows that fewer Americans now drink alcohol, with the percentage dropping from 56% to 51% over the past ten years. Local bartenders report that more people are visiting bars less frequently and opting for nonalcoholic drinks.  Nebraska Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska students have expressed reactions to planned renovations at Memorial Stadium that may make the 2026 season the last before upgrades finish in 2028, as the Board of Regents prepares to vote on the proposals.  KNOP
  • The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will consider a plan (Big Red Rebuild) to rebuild Memorial Stadium on Friday, April 24 at 9 a.m. The project will upgrade seating and access for 80,000 fans, with construction starting after the 2026 season and finishing in time for the 2028 kickoff.  KNOP
