COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Friendship Home will park a StarTran Bus for its 27th annual Stuff the Bus donation event this Saturday and Sunday at Walmart and Sam's Club around Lincoln. Volunteers distribute lists of needed items (toilet paper, bedding, cleaning supplies) to help stock the shelter.  KOLN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire on Saturday afternoon at Havelock trailer court displaced residents, and Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded as the Red Cross provided temporary assistance.  Lincoln Journal Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Nebraska–Lincoln honored 208 undergraduates admitted to teacher education programs at the third annual Teacher Education Convocation held on campus, recognizing the students' readiness to join the classroom. The ceremony celebrated their achievements and provided a glimpse of their future roles.  Lincoln Journal Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Apr. 17, the Lancaster County Board approved $12 million from the Visitors Improvement Fund to help local organizations update Lincoln attractions (including the Children’s Zoo and Museum of American Speed). The funds support tourism projects aimed at boosting local economic growth.  KFOR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The April Sampson Cancer Center hosted April’s Art and Garden Festival on Saturday where visitors shopped local art, painted, and arranged flowers to help cancer patients. Funds raised will support the program that honors April (who passed away in 2016).  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska clinched the series with a 12-2 win over No.12 USC Saturday afternoon at Haymarket Park. The Huskers improved to 18-1 at home and will look to complete a home sweep today with first pitch at 12:00 p.m.  Nebraska Now
  • On Saturday, Nebraska high school teams raced their custom electric go-karts around the tractor testing track at UNL East campus, showcasing student skill and creativity. The event brought together competitors from across the state in a display of innovation and speed.  Lincoln Journal Star
