  • A USDA report shows Nebraska corn farmers are expected to plant 10.6 million acres of corn this season—an investment of nearly $3.1 billion in seed, fuel and fertilizer over two months.   • Nebraska's highest-paid superintendents earned six or more times what first-year teachers made, a state auditor said in a letter to lawmakers on Monday—figures that show even small districts paid more than national averages.   • City planners are moving closer to making South Haymarket a historic district near downtown as the City Council will vote on the proposal on April 28. The plan adds the property at 631 L St. & offers tax credits and relaxed floodplain rules for redevelopment.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • On Tuesday morning, U.S. Senators Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts met with the Nebraska Farm Bureau to urge Congress to renew the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) before it expires later this year. Sen. Fischer said that if the law ends, an average family of four making $80,000 will face a $1,700 tax hike and a $1,000 drop in the Child Tax Credit per child, which could affect farms and ranches (80% are family-owned).  KOLN
