- ➤ Late Wednesday night, a fire damaged the exterior of a home near 67th and Colby in northeast Lincoln, with a man and his dogs safe (damage estimated at about $100K) as crews controlled the flames and investigators worked to determine the cause. KFOR

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three third grade classes at Lakeview Elementary practiced running a student-run farmers market on Thursday, Apr. 23 to learn how goods and services flow in the economy. The hands-on experience provided basic lessons in economic exchange. KNOP

- ➤ Residents told city council members at a Monday work session at Lake Hastings that water levels have been historically low. Leaders are now looking at plans to help the lake recover (an environmental priority for the community). KNOP

- ➤ Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services will ask USDA to add candy to the SNAP Healthy Choice Waiver, which will ban its purchase with food assistance benefits starting Nov. 1 pending approval (a move aimed at reducing excessive sugar intake among participants). KNOP
- ➤ Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche downgraded medical cannabis to Schedule III on Thursday, prompting Nebraska advocates to cheer (saying the prohibition excuse is gone) and leading state officials to review local plans as the Omaha Tribe advances its own program. Nebraska Examiner

- ➤ Nonprofit Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana said the reclassification of medical marijuana, approved on Thursday (by acting Attorney General Todd Blanche), does not ease access in Lincoln as dispensaries still lack licenses.
