- ➤ Cornhusker Bank partnered with the People’s City Mission for its annual One Day Without Shoes event on Friday, handing out a record 69,600 shoes to Lincoln residents in need so they can step forward with confidence. Nebraska Now
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Morrill Hall's second floor including Elephant Hall will get its largest renovation ever. Construction will start in summer 2027 and finish by January 2029, with $15.9 million approved to update exhibits and conserve fossils and murals (preserving a nearly century-old collection) for future visitors. - ➤ Christmas Together will bring Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith plus CeCe Winans to the Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday, Dec. 5 with a set list of Christmas classics, career hits plus worship songs. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 1 at Ticketmaster. KOLN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Lower Loup Natural Resources District visited 20 schools in 14 locations to teach hundreds of students why planting trees matters on Arbor Day. The event showed that trees play an essential role in everyday life (providing oxygen and raw materials for products). KOLN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved a $600 million renovation to Memorial Stadium on Friday, Apr. 24. Officials held a press conference at 3 p.m. to detail upgrades, including a new south scoreboard, premium seating, accessibility improvements, and reduced capacity (funded by philanthropy and bonds). - ➤ The University Board of Regents voted on a $600 million project (Big Red Rebuild) that will add a south scoreboard to Memorial Stadium while reducing seating from 85,000 to 80,000 on Friday, Apr. 24, with funding of $250 million in donations and $350 million in private bonds. KOLN

- ➤ The Nebraska Huskers Softball team canceled its Sunday game against the Hawkeyes because of storm forecasts, and they played a doubleheader on Friday with the first game at 3 p.m. while Saturday’s contest remained scheduled at 1 p.m. (ticket exchanges for Sunday’s game were offered until 1 p.m. Friday).
