GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska lawmakers advanced LB468 from Sen. Rob Clements on Tuesday, reducing inheritance tax rates for most heirs while raising fees for marriage licenses, vehicle inspections, and other services — the move aims to offset a $34.8 million revenue loss to counties and will be debated further in the session. Some lawmakers expressed concerns that shifting these costs may force counties to rely more on property taxes for essential services.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen reminded early voters that Lincoln General Election ballots must be received by 8 a.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, May 6, so the Postal Service can process them. More than 7,200 of 30,500 ballots have been returned and voters who requested ballots after April 26 will receive a postcard outlining their options—vote on Election Day or pick up a ballot at the Election Commission’s office.  KOLN
