COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lincoln’s annual Give to Lincoln Day began Thursday and runs through May 29 to support 502 local nonprofits that serve the community. Donations made count toward a $650,000 challenge match provided by the Lincoln Community Foundation—boosting support for local services.  KOLN

CRIME NEWS

  • Lincoln police are asking for help finding 12-year-old Tavian Bratt who was last seen at about 10 a.m. Thursday leaving his home near North 23rd and Holdrege streets — he was wearing all white clothing, carrying a black backpack, and riding a black-silver bike.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • A 20-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for robbery after a pickup truck crash on April 12 near downtown Lincoln led to a group assault on a 17-year-old who sustained facial injuries when attackers punched, kicked, and stole her key fob—court records show one suspect recorded the attack and said, 'take her bag'.  Nebraska Now

  • Lincoln Littles and Lincoln Literacy have teamed up to launch a paid internship program—teaching English and training workers to fill early childhood roles—addressing the local shortage. The program will start soon and is looking for more applicants.  Nebraska Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers warned that scammers are targeting Nebraskans with cryptocurrency fraud and romance scams, causing some victims to lose six-figure sums; officials urge anyone contacted to notify their bank or the FBI immediately.  KNOP
  • After stalling in committee for two weeks, Nebraska lawmakers moved the medical marijuana bill to the Legislative floor for debate later this month—State Sen. Rick Holdcroft said the discussion is expected soon. The bill will let patients use up to 2 ounces of marijuana flower if vaporized while smoking remains illegal and PTSD is not a qualifying condition.  KOLN
  • Nebraska lawmakers advanced an amended bill on Wednesday to remove a lifetime ban on food assistance for those with drug felony convictions with a 31-14 vote. The bill (Legislative Bill 319) adds that individuals with three or more drug convictions must complete substance abuse treatment to qualify for benefits.  KOLN
