  • On Wednesday night, a five-year-old girl fell from a third-story window at a northeast Lincoln apartment building just north of 56th and Holdrege — she had pushed out a window screen and climbed into it — and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  KNOP

  • On Thursday morning, Standing Bear High School freshmen toured the state capitol and took part in a mock legislative hearing as part of their civics class—serving as senators and questioning a fake bill while learning the rules of government.  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The DEA Omaha Division partnered with 155 law enforcement agencies to collect 20,628 pounds of unused medications on April 26 as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This spring event marked the division’s largest collection since 2021 — a key step to help prevent drug misuse and abuse.  KOLN
  • On May 8th, Governor Jim Pillen and Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs director John Hilgert honored World War II veterans at the State Capitol on the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day — the event featured medal presentations, a colors ceremony, and a wreath-laying by the veterans’ great grandchildren.  KOLN
  • Mayor Gaylor Baird and Health Department Director Kerry Kernen introduced a new Heat Response Plan that will boost coordination among community partners to help residents get cooling and health resources during extreme heat.
