CULTURE NEWS

  • More than 80 volunteers transformed Sunken Gardens in under one hour by planting thousands of flowers in a quilt-inspired design based on American quilt patterns and ideas from the International Quilt Museum. The work follows months of winter planning that will yield a living patchwork display by summer.  KOLN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Nebraska Lincoln celebrated a record (3,885) graduates as keynote speaker DeMoine Adams urged them to lead with purpose, hope and service to others.  Lincoln Journal Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Portions of 84th, West South, and 40th Streets will close for lane work starting May 11 for water main installations, railroad repairs, and pavement improvements. Locals are advised to use alternate routes as some closures extend until late summer and fall 2026 - weather permitting.  KFOR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carson Jasa struck out nine & allowed two hits in seven scoreless innings as Nebraska defeated Iowa 10-0 at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park Friday night. His strong pitching improved his record to 9-2 while helping the Huskers secure a run-rule victory.  KFOR
  • Nebraska Softball defeated UCLA 7-2 to win the Big Ten Tournament and earned its first Big Ten regular season title in its history (the Huskers recorded their second tournament championship overall).  KNOP
  • Nebraska won the Big Ten softball tournament by beating UCLA 7-2 Saturday, earning its second title and extending a 21-game win streak. The Huskers will host a watch party at Bowlin Stadium and learn their NCAA seeding today at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.  Nebraska Now
  • Dylan Carey's three-run homer sparked a 7-run eighth inning that lifted No. 25 Nebraska to a 15-11 win over Iowa at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park on Saturday afternoon in front of a season-high 7,773 fans.  KNOP
