BUSINESS NEWS

  • A federal judge’s ruling forced the siblings to temporarily rename their speakeasy bar from Barber Shop Blackstone to Censored Shop to avoid state fines and jail time. Their legal team will file an appeal on Tuesday to defend their free speech rights.  KOLN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lincoln native Tristan Williams — a trivia enthusiast from our community — clinched his fourth Jeopardy win on Monday with $76,199 in earnings and will compete for a fifth win on Tuesday.  KNOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tuesday night, voters in Norris and Waverly rejected school bond proposals aimed at improving security and expanding facilities. The Waverly proposal for $64 million received 830 votes for and 1,325 against, while the Norris bid for $34.8 million also fell short.  Nebraska Now
  • Norris FFA students planted 28 soybean varieties at a test plot across from their school today to gain hands-on experience in production agriculture. Agricultural partners and an equipment representative helped teach farming economics and technology use in the field.  KNOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, May 12, a local poll asked families what concern worried them most ahead of November's general election, listing healthcare, economy, and war in Iran as options (votes were collected as polls closed).  Nebraska Now
  • Long-serving Sheriff Terry Wagner attended Law Enforcement Memorial Day at the Hall of Justice on May 12 to honor fallen officers including Deputy Craig Dodge (shot in 1987). In his final year as sheriff, Wagner said remembering lost colleagues remains vital as the community depends on law enforcement.  KFOR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department released a Heat Response Plan with a safety website, extended cooling center hours, and heat relief kits to help residents prepare for rising temperatures (184 heat-related illnesses were reported in Lancaster County in 2025). The department urges residents to secure water, air conditioning, and check on vulnerable neighbors.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska softball finished the regular season ranked first in the NFCA Coaches Poll with a 46—6 record, winning Big Ten championships and entering a 21-game win streak at the NCAA Tournament. The Huskers will host the Lincoln Regional from Friday to Sunday against Louisville, Grand Canyon and South Dakota.  KNOP
  • Nebraska released its 2026-27 Big Ten men’s basketball schedule on Tuesday, May 12. It includes 20 contests with a home game against defending champion Michigan and matchups with 10 NCAA Tournament teams, with Iowa and Michigan State serving as double-play opponents.  KFOR
