  • On Thursday, May 28, residents can support Give to Lincoln by donating to the Food Bank of Lincoln, which serves 36,000 households monthly; each $1 provides up to two meals (gifts also boost a $650,000 match fund from the Lincoln Community Foundation).  KOLN

  • Lincoln native Tristan Williams has kept his spot on Jeopardy for 8 days—he continues to answer questions correctly on the popular quiz show.  Lincoln Journal Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices are rising in Lincoln as Memorial Day weekend nears. According to a GasBuddy survey from Monday (146 stations), the average price for regular unleaded gas hit $4.19 per gallon.  Lincoln Journal Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials advised residents on Monday to report storm damage like downed trees and power lines; call the Lincoln Police nonemergency line for blocked streets, contact Community Forestry for public trees, or reach out to Lincoln Electric System (LES) for power line issues.  KOLN
  • On Sunday night, tornado warnings in eastern Nebraska triggered sirens across Lincoln because any warning in a siren zone sets off the entire system (Emergency Management Director Jim Davidsaver urged residents to use cell apps and NOAA weather radios for fuller alerts).  KOLN

HEALTH NEWS

  • The West Central District Health Department will install Heart Hubs at public places (including the Lincoln County Courthouse) to offer free blood pressure screenings and heart health tips. The new initiative aims to help residents better monitor their heart health.  KNOP

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska softball two-way player Jordy Frahm was named to USA Softball’s Collegiate Player of the Year Top Three list, making her a repeat finalist. The senior has led her team this season with top stats in offense and pitching as Nebraska clinched Big Ten tournament and regular-season titles.  KFOR
  • Nebraska men's basketball will face Providence in the 2026 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 11 via Ticketmaster (in-person sales begin Saturday, Sept. 12).  KFOR
