COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, three Memorial Day ceremonies are being held in Lincoln. The first ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. at Wyuka Cemetery and Funeral Home with a parade starting at Historic Stables and Bridge, the second is at 11:30 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home with an invocation and wreath placing, and the third starts at 8 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park with a candlelit service—if weather is bad, it will move indoors.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • Nebraska Memorial Forest is a living tribute with nearly 2,000 trees planted to honor fallen soldiers, first responders and law enforcement officers in communities like Omaha, Lincoln, South Sioux City and Papillion. Vietnam veteran Jim Meier’s group—founded in 2012—will dedicate groves today—50 trees in Valentine and 70 in Bassett—after 92 trees were dedicated on May 17, with plans to plant 1,500 more trees by 2030.  Nebraska Examiner

CRIME NEWS

  • Late Saturday night at 10:30 p.m., Lincoln Police say a red Chevy Silverado driven by 30-year-old Nicholas Jones lost control near 27th and O streets, rolled over, and struck a Ford Mustang that left its driver with life-threatening injuries while a Silverado passenger suffered minor injuries—Jones was arrested for felony DUI causing serious bodily injury.  Nebraska Now
  • Lincoln Police are investigating a stabbing in the Near South neighborhood after officers found a 27-year-old man with a stab wound to his shoulder just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and the victim said he walked several blocks from where the incident occurred before seeking help at a nearby facility—anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.  Nebraska Now
  • Late Saturday night at 31st and R Street in Lincoln, police responded to reports of gunshots and a disturbance after witnesses heard multiple shots from a fleeing vehicle — five spent shell casings were recovered with no reported injuries or property damage.  KFOR
  • Lincoln Police arrested 30-year-old Nicholas Jones on Saturday night near 29th and O Street after his Chevy Silverado lost control from reckless driving, rolled onto its side, and collided with a Ford Mustang, leaving one driver with life-threatening injuries and a pick-up passenger with minor injuries—officials have since reopened the street.  KFOR
