COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lincoln Community Foundation is hosting the 15th annual Give to Lincoln Day today to support nearly 500 nonprofits. The online event shows a leaderboard and includes a $650,000 match fund from sponsors like West Gate Bank.  KFOR
  • Lincoln Parks and Rec said Tuesday that eight public pools reopened after Monday closures from water quality issues while Arnold at Air Park remains closed for mechanical repairs. Family swim nights begin at Belmont on Mondays, Eden on Tuesdays, Irvingdale and Highlands on Wednesdays, and Ballard on Thursdays.  KFOR

  • Historian Nathaniel Philbrick will headline the 31st annual Governor's Lecture in the Humanities about the Revolutionary War on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln. The free public event will also be live-streamed.  Fox Nebraska

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln Public Schools Security Director Joseph Wright, who led a safety training (including a session by Dr. Stephanie Leite), is retiring Friday after 13 years. His successor, Nate Hill, will take over at the end of June.  KOLN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hospice patient Bruce Mavis, diagnosed with esophageal cancer three years ago, got his final wish to play with a local band on Wednesday at St. Croix in Lincoln; his performance brought together 12 staff and 20 family and friends (as noted by social worker Allison Cattau) to celebrate living fully.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska's team captain Jordy Frahm was named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year on May 26 after leading her squad to Big Ten titles + earning top national rankings in pitching and hitting.  KFOR
  • Nebraska Football's 2026 schedule features an 11 a.m. opener on Sept. 5 at Memorial Stadium; night games arrive on Sept. 12 (6 p.m.) and Sept. 19 (6:15 p.m.), plus a Black Friday matchup in Iowa City at 11 a.m.  Nebraska Now
  • Nebraska Athletics announced that softball stars Jordy Frahm and Alexis Jensen were named All-Americans on Wednesday in Lincoln (the award honors top players); Frahm earned back-to-back Player of the Year honors while Jensen became the first Huskers freshman in 15 years.  Nebraska Now
  • Chaos Softball youth teams will cheer on the Huskers today at their Eagle facility (gathering after Thursday night practice), highlighting that nearly half the roster is homegrown in Nebraska and boosting local confidence in future softball talent.  Nebraska Now
