GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Col. Bryan D. Waugh will be sworn in as the 19th Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol today at 3 p.m. at Headquarters on Innovation Drive—Governor Jim Pillen and Lt. Governor Joe Kelly will speak at the ceremony as he replaces Col. John Bolduc who retired in May.  KOLN

  • Dian Domach, convicted for a Lincoln robbery in 2013, was put on a deportation flight from Texas headed for South Sudan on May 20. His family—led by his sister Tabisa—said they are worried because they do not know if he will be safe in a war-torn country or where he will go next.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • State prosecutors asked the Nebraska Supreme Court to review a dismissed felony theft by deception charge against former History Nebraska director Trevor Jones (2016-2022) because they say lower courts made procedural errors. His lawyer said the state is using a flawed argument, and Jones resigned in 2022 after an audit questioned his handling of $270,000 in donations.  Nebraska Examiner
  • Lawmakers approved a commission last Friday to review Nebraska’s K-12 funding formula for potential tax relief—an 18-member panel that must be appointed by early July—set to meet quarterly with its first report due Dec 1.  Nebraska Examiner
  • Lincoln Transportation and Utilities announced that portions of eastbound O Street between 44th and 46th Streets and northwest 12th Street between West Highland Boulevard and Kingbird Road will close today for wastewater repair work and street improvements. The O Street repair is expected to finish by June 9 while the lane closures on northwest 12th Street will last until mid-July—residents are advised to use alternate routes.  KOLN
