  • Lincoln Transportation and Utilities announced portions of several streets will close for special events starting today through Sunday, June 8. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes as detours are set for the Havelock Block Party, Nebraska Whiskey Carnivale, and Bandit Run Car Show — officials advise extra caution.  KOLN

CRIME NEWS

  • Lincoln Police are searching for a suspect who robbed Fat Dogs convenience store off the interstate near NW 12th Street early Thursday morning—he is described as between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing a gray stocking cap, a black sweatshirt and blue jeans.  KOLN
  • Police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed the Fat Dogs convenience store (at 1105 West Bond St.) shortly after 4:15 a.m. on Thursday when a clerk said he threatened the counter with a pocket knife and fled west through the parking lot (near Lincoln Airport).  Lincoln Journal Star
  • A Lincoln man was arrested after allegedly stealing two vehicles in less than 12 hours—he drove off in a red 1998 Ford Escort from a therapy center on Wednesday and later took a red 2004 Chevy Impala, with police booking him on felony charges.  KOLN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former educator Angie Eberspacher announced her bid for the District 5 seat on the Nebraska State Board of Education on Wednesday — the district covers southern Lincoln and parts of Lancaster County — and she said she will focus on improving literacy scores, recruiting and keeping quality teachers, and strengthening core academics. She is running for the seat held by Kirk Penner, who is not seeking re-election.  KFOR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fifteen counties in Nebraska have confirmed infestations of Emerald Ash Borer in ash trees, which will kill 44 million trees in the coming years — the beetle, native to Asia, causes canopy thinning and bark damage and spreads through infested firewood and nursery stock.  Nebraska Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • A task force of non-profit leaders, health providers and school teachers unveiled five steps to boost youth fitness in Lincoln after fewer students passed the PACER test, which fell from 74 percent to 65 percent. The Community Health Endowment group plans to expand school programs and build community fitness sites — actions aimed at helping underserved neighborhoods.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lincoln-based Hudl acquired Titan Sports, a company that uses wearable technology to track players with GPS. The move will give coaches more data to improve training and help integrate Titan's tracking tools with Hudl's video analytics, and deal terms were not disclosed.  Lincoln Journal Star
