CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested in north Lincoln for accessory charges after a shooting on Saturday morning that critically injured two people — police are still searching for the suspect who fired the gun.  KOLN
  • The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office investigated a burglary at Meadowlark Pharmacy in Hickman early Monday morning after a passerby reported a suspicious vehicle, and deputies later found the drive-thru window broken out with several drugs missing—this incident follows similar break-ins two years ago and last year.  KFOR
  • Trial for Joesef Barraza, accused of killing Carly Schaaf and three counts of sexual assault, began Monday with opening statements that cited cell phone evidence showing she visited his home on May 17, 2021, before her body was found at Pawnee Lake, and charges also include his girlfriend Rachel Pageler + his younger brother Danyl as accomplices.  KNOP
  • Lincoln police arrested Donald Handy—55 years old—Saturday night for his alleged role in a shooting near 26th and Potter that left a 41-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman in critical condition, and he now faces two counts of accessory to a felony.  KFOR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Nebraska dropped last week as the average went down three cents to $2.89 per gallon and diesel fell two cents to $3.44 per gallon, according to GasBuddy — prices were one cent lower than a year ago. This drop may help drivers in our state with lower fuel costs.  Fox Nebraska

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission held its first meeting Monday in Lincoln and elected Dr. Monica Oldenburg as its chair while outlining a framework to set rules for medical marijuana growing and selling before July. The commission said it will reconvene on June 26 as Gov. Jim Pillen works to fill a liquor commission vacancy for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District.  KOLN
  • The Lincoln City Council unanimously voted Monday afternoon to approve raises for 911 dispatcher center employees, granting each of the 51 dispatchers a $4,000 retention incentive over three years and providing annual pay increases from $2,200 to $2,700 for 45 positions (as reported by the city’s Human Resources).  KOLN
