ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday at 9:45 p.m., police responded to a crash on the Northwest 27th Street bridge when a northbound utility vehicle struck a parked car and then hit a guardrail. The driver, a 38-year-old Lincoln man, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and his passenger was hospitalized in stable condition, officials said. Nebraska Now

- ➤ Lincoln man Leewad Lojing, 21, allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend's head and now faces charges of terroristic threats, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and assault by strangulation or suffocation+. Lincoln Journal Star

- ➤ Lancaster County Court Judge Laurie J. Yardley of the Third Judicial District announced she will retire after 30 years of service effective Aug. 1—she sent her notice to the governor. KOLN
- ➤ A new state law now allows EMS crews to care for and transport injured Nebraska K-9s employed by law enforcement, fire departments, and corrections—fulfilling a measure approved by Sen. Merv Riepe by a 47-0 vote in April that took effect this week. The law gives EMS workers immunity when acting in good faith while ensuring human patients always receive priority. Nebraska Examiner
- ➤ On Wednesday morning, state patrol officers stopped 36 drivers in the I-80 construction zone west of Lincoln where the speed limit is 55 mph and some vehicles reached 80 mph—troopers will monitor traffic for the duration of the project to protect road workers. KFOR
