CRIME NEWS

  • Lincoln Police warned the community about scammers posing as a lieutenant who tricked a worker into using $1,600 cash on Monday at 6:30 p.m. to buy gift cards (officers say they never call to ask for money).  KOLN
  • A Lincoln man was arrested Tuesday after an undercover officer caught him selling meth three times while his two children were present at different spots near a school (he faces charges for distributing a hazardous drug, controlled substance near a school, and intentional child abuse with a hearing set for Aug. 21).  KOLN
  • A Lincoln man was arrested Tuesday evening after he threatened a victim with a lighter gun at a home near Hill Drive and Valley Road—42-year-old Steven Gray kicked in the door, asked where his daughter was, and pointed what he said was a gun—and police charged him with burglary, terroristic threats, tampering with physical evidence, use of a deadly weapon in a felony and possession of a controlled substance after they found a syringe that tested positive for meth in his property.  KOLN

  • Nebraska filed a lawsuit against Colorado over a 1923 water compact as officials say unlawful water diversion and delays in the Perkins County Canal project—scheduled for completion by 2032—threaten the state’s water supply.  Nebraska Now
  • Gov. Pillen signed four bills on Wednesday to boost efficiency and cut state spending by 10%—a total of at least $500 million—by asking agencies for reduction plans; he said the laws will eliminate outdated boards and reporting requirements amid an $86 million tax revenue shortfall.  Nebraska Examiner
