Lincoln nonprofits are offering free citizenship classes to help immigrants learn English for their citizenship interviews.

The 10-week course — provided by partners including El Centro de Las Americas, the Asian Community and Cultural Center, Lutheran Family Services, and the Center for Legal Immigration Assistance — gives students a certificate for free legal help to complete their N-400 application.

Four people were hospitalized after a crash on I-80 near the Interstate 480 off ramp on Saturday night when a westbound Toyota Highlander hit debris and was struck by a Volvo semitrailer that lost control, hit a guardrail, and caught fire; the Highlander driver (55 years old) and three others were taken to Nebraska Medicine while the semitrailer driver remained uninjured.

Local advocates and officials say the change has created economic uncertainty for businesses and immigrants as many now face challenges securing legal status.

Construction crews have started a $6 million renovation at the Country Club of Lincoln that will add shared fairways and relocate tee boxes for safer play — crew work has included tree removal and bunker reshaping since the course closed in early July.
