GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County officials and rural advocates said changes to the BEAD Act dropped eligible high-speed internet sites from 1,724 to 629 in one county and disqualified many locations statewide. Local leaders worry that cheaper technology will create a two-tier system—giving urban areas reliable fiber while leaving rural spots with slower service.  KNOP
  • After a 60-page audit report uncovered issues at the Nebraska Commission on African American Affairs, the group is using the report to get on the right path—starting with a search for a new executive director and asking for input from community experts in housing, education, and economics. State Auditor Mike Foley said he expects a follow-up audit in 2 to 3 years to check that the changes are on track.  KOLN
