  • The Bay in Lincoln is hosting its free Booey Bash on Sunday with skating, art, and a skateboarding contest starting at 6 p.m. & running until 9 p.m., marking the last summer event before The Bay closes until Aug. 18.  KOLN
  • Lincoln runner Steve Sousek completed a 24-hour run at Pius X Catholic High School on Saturday to raise funds for women in need. He ran from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday and raised about $8,000 for his RUNBORN fundraiser while running with a friend he reconnected with—demonstrating strong local support.  KOLN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash near Highway 79 and West Raymond Road on Saturday at 4:39 p.m. when a westbound vehicle failed to yield and caused a collision with a southbound car — a pregnant woman was taken to a local hospital as a precaution — and only minor injuries were reported.  KOLN

CRIME NEWS

  • Lincoln Police responded to a crash at (48th and Holdrege St.) on Sunday night just after 7 p.m. and launched a DUI investigation (with no injuries reported).  KOLN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sixpence Early Childhood Fund is helping families stay cool during extreme heat by offering assistance with fans and air conditioning repairs—community members can also benefit from donated punch cards for a local swimming pool and water play activities. The program serves about 36 children and stresses the importance of keeping kids cool and well-hydrated during brutal temperatures.  Nebraska Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During the 2025 legislative session, state lawmakers debated voter-approved labor laws including minimum wage and paid sick leave amendments while addressing a major budget deficit. Lawmakers also considered proposals affecting rideshare classifications, cybersecurity liability, and changes to medical cannabis regulations (which sparked debates on worker protections and fiscal impact).  Nebraska Examiner
