COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, nearly 200 players from 39 youth teams and 16 adult teams played in the YMCA Railyard Rims charity tournament to support programs like swim lessons and memberships — organizers noted the great weather and community spirit during the quick 10-minute games.  KOLN

CRIME NEWS

  • Columbus police report that a female suspect attacked an officer with a knife (near 13th Street and 30th Avenue) before another officer fatally shot her (Saturday afternoon), and the injured officer was taken to a hospital and later released.  Nebraska Now
  • On Friday, 54-year-old Ronald Burns was arrested at Pentzer Park near 28th and Fair after he, very drunk, allegedly attacked an officer by throwing a blanket, pushing him, hitting his foot with a broken mop handle and kicking him while handcuffed—he was taken to Lancaster County Jail and treated at a hospital for a small cut on his face.  KOLN
  • A Lincoln man was arrested after a nearly $4,000 diamond engagement ring was stolen from a truck last month — court filings show.  Lincoln Journal Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, Attorney General Mike Hilgers sued Savage Enterprises— a Wyoming corporation based in California— for selling illegal synthetic THC products that used deceptive practices to target youth and misrepresent product content; his office had earlier issued cease and desist orders to retail stores after tests found products with illegal delta-9 levels.  KFOR
  • The ACLU filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Maria Reynosa Jacinto— a single mother arrested in an ICE raid on June 10—challenging her continued detention in a North Platte jail after an immigration judge set a $9,000 bond on July 15. The suit argues that ICE’s automatic stay on bond orders violates due process as new interim guidance keeps many detained immigrants from release.  KOLN

  • At Haymarket Park on July 31, the Sioux City Explorers beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 7-2—Kyle Marman pitched seven strong innings and D’Shawn Knowles hit two home runs to help the Explorers claim the season series.  KFOR
