COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Construction crews began grading a 1.2-acre lot in north-central Lincoln for Hope Village, an 18-home community developed by Bridges to Hope to provide permanent supportive housing for people recently released from prison or jail. Fourteen of the tiny homes will be 300-square-foot studios while the $3.2 million project is funded through grants, donations, and in-kind support — residents will pay $1 per square foot plus utilities.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • Hundreds of children attended the 13th annual Back 2 School bash in Lincoln on Sunday and received free haircuts, full backpacks, and essential supplies — organizers said the event eased stress on families and boosted confidence — marking a strong start to the school year.  Nebraska Now

  • Brian Podwinski, former owner of Blue Blood Brewing, faces multiple civil lawsuits through his Roca business ISW Custom Builders—one filing even hints at an active criminal investigation into unpaid wages and alleged fraud. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers filed a lawsuit in Lancaster County District Court on Friday against Savage Enterprises, a Wyoming company based in California, for allegedly breaking labeling and safety rules on THC and delta-8 products that may attract minors—tests and a consumer complaint sparked the action and the suit seeks $2,000 per violation.  Nebraska Examiner
  • Hausmann Construction, a Lincoln contractor, filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Sioux City claiming that design errors and extra work directives from the Woodbury County Law Enforcement Center Authority and its partners delayed the 498-inmate jail’s opening by a year and led to a missing final payment of $5.7 million — a setback that jeopardizes its future projects.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission meets today at 1 p.m. in the Meadowlark Conference Room to review state laws, medical cannabis research and temporary licensing guidelines with a deadline of Oct 1. Commissioners will also review their budget, discuss public comments and may enter executive session to address litigation and funding issues — all aimed at finalizing formal rules.  KNOP
