  • The Yazidi community gathered Sunday at Diamond Palace Ballroom in Lincoln to mark the 11th anniversary of the genocide by Islamic State—an attack in 2014 that left many displaced. Community leaders stressed the need for support—urging continued advocacy as survivors rebuild their lives.  Nebraska Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Lincoln man was taken to a hospital on Sunday after his 2004 Chrysler Pacifica caught fire near 162nd Street and Highway 6 in Waverly—he suffered minor burns on his legs while deputies suspect alcohol was a factor and are investigating about $6,000 in damage to the track's shunt wires.  Nebraska Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Just before 3 a.m. Sunday, police arrested a Lincoln man who fired a revolver off his apartment balcony near 70th Street and Yankee Hill Road—he was uncooperative when officers arrived, found with a black revolver, a box of ammunition, and arrested on charges of discharging a firearm, refusing to comply, and disturbing the peace.  Nebraska Now
  • A Columbus man, Martin Gomez, was arrested Friday for child enticement after a Special Victims Unit investigator posing as a 15-year-old online received his friend request—he engaged in explicit chats and planned to meet at Mahoney Park before being taken into custody just before 1:30 p.m.  Nebraska Now

  • Lincoln native Emma Harner, who learned the guitar during the pandemic, wowed over 400,000 Lollapalooza attendees in Chicago with her band Jesse’s Detor on Friday — her rapid progress from beginner to performing with Grammy winner Olivia Rodrigo marked a milestone in her music career.  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers wrapped up an 89-day session on June 2 as 47 senators gave mixed feedback to the Nebraska Examiner, with some calling it productive and others finding it disappointing. They will break before starting a 60-day session on Jan. 7 — when they plan to focus on the state budget, property taxes and economic development.  Nebraska Examiner
  • Congressman Mike Flood held an in-person town hall at Kimball Recital Hall on UNL’s City Campus Monday night from 5 to 6 p.m. Doors opened at 4:30 p.m. and he provided an update on Lincoln projects while answering questions from residents during his first town hall in the district since earlier sessions in Columbus and Seward.  KFOR
