CRIME NEWS

  • Lincoln police warned residents to secure their nontraditional rides after 59 thefts were reported from January through July, up from 36 last year + officers noted many vehicles were left unlocked and only 17% have been recovered.  KOLN
  • Lincoln Police are searching for two motorcyclists in separate cases—one who crashed a dirt bike into a car at 70th and O on July 18 at about 9:15 p.m. after saying his brakes failed and may be Hispanic, and one who rode a black Yamaha without plates near 56th and O on July 19 while wearing red gloves, red and white tennis shoes, and a band tattoo on his left forearm before speeding off— as anyone with information is urged to contact Lincoln Crime Stoppers.  KOLN
  • A Lincoln man, 28-year-old Justin Koder, pleaded not guilty in Lancaster County District Court on Tuesday to charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child, child abuse and two additional felony sex crimes after he was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.  KOLN
  • A Lincoln man, 32-year-old Ki Wah, was arrested on Wednesday after his red Toyota Tacoma hit a pedestrian on June 11 at 3:15 a.m. on Normal Boulevard — a DUI incident in which the 58-year-old victim suffered serious injuries and a breath test showed a BAC of 0.17.  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former special victims unit head Jake Dilsaver resigned in lieu of termination after facing dual investigations by LPD internal affairs and the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, which reviewed video footage and searched his phone; Sheriff Terry Wagner said the probes did not support criminal charges and that some actions may have violated department policy without breaking the law.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • Today, Kids and Car Safety urged lawmakers to regulate the Hot Cars Act—part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that calls for new vehicle alerts to detect unattended children—to stop fatal hot car incidents. Nebraska representatives and national figures expressed concern over missed deadlines and rising child deaths, with six cases reported locally this year.  KOLN
