EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln Pius X High School will start classes on Aug. 19 amid a $29 million construction project that builds a new performing arts center, upgrades athletic facilities, and expands the chapel — though the project removes 80 parking spots, leading community members to rent driveways for students. • Lincoln Public Schools said 108 students are already identified as homeless before classes start with 40 percent of last school year's 853 homeless students living in shelters — the highest count since the program began in 2005. Outreach workers visit shelters to help students receive school supplies and transportation.  KOLN
  • NU President Jeff Gold announced Friday that the university will offer buyouts to senior faculty to help counter budget challenges—he said the measure is meant to secure long-term strength and financial sustainability.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • Lincoln Pius X Catholic High School is entering a new era as fresh administrative leaders join a $28.7 million construction project — which includes a new performing arts center, upgraded athletic areas, and a renovated chapel — as it prepares for the new school year starting August 19.
